  SRIT is one among the most eminent Educational Institutions in Coimbatore district. Our college is recognized as the one of the leaders in engineering education, research and application of knowledge to betterment of the society and the country. In this report we are going to see about Engines Lab under the  Department of Mechanical Engineering.  

         Mission

 Our Mission is to produce Quality Engineers, Scientists and Managers equipped with unbounded technical skills, domain knowledge and excellent moral values, for the advancement of the industry, business and for the emancipation of society.

         HOW IT STARTED

Our engines lab was started under the guidance of the principal of SRIT and it was officially started at  2nd oct of 2018 by 2016 -2020 Mechanical Engineering batch students. Which was later carried on by the upcoming batches of the college in order to fullfill the mission and  vison of the engine’s lab

        WHO WILL WORK?

We students from various Departments along with our seniors and juniors work under a single umbrella , efficiently in order to attain high end benefits from our “Engines Lab”.

        HOW WE MAINTAIN THE WORK

In order to maintain steady flow of work we maintain a record of students who enter of leave the in order to perform their contribution in respective projects.

We also maintain a separate record for the stock of materials in order to avoid lack of components during fabrication and product development.

FACILITIES TO PERFORM WORK

  •   We have separate design crew to initialize the primary stage of production[Design].
  • We have separate tools to perform the primary processes of fabrication [ cutting and grinding].
  • We have a hybrid welder in order to perform arc and tig welding based on the production process.
  • We have a spray painting machine connected with air compressor to perform painting operation based of the outer shell and external conditions of the product.
  • We also have a incubation chamber to meet the needs based on the product.

  • Construction of TV stand at Seminar Hall and projector stand for classroom
  • Establishment of Engine’s Laboratory within the college through which various Academic projects are being carried out periodically.

 

 IN HOUSE PROJECTS

   From Engines Lab under the division of “Engineering Division” come with various projects. The projects are as follow,

1.Weight Controlled Suicidal Preventive Clamp:

Asian continent accounts for worlds 60% suicide amidst 40% is done by hanging. Suicidal restriction strategies are lacking in the day-by-day life to amend this shortage, various techniques monitored for the control of suicide by hanging are studied and new technique is proposed. A new design of suicidal preventive clamp is proposed which consist of two spring setup and a lock system.

2.Automatic Palmyra Palm Seed Picker:

An apparatus for an automatic innovative device for cutting and scooping the Palmyra palm seed out of the fruit. In the conventional method, the fruit is sliced at the top, by the vendor and then he cuts the outline of the seed using his sickle after which he scoops it out. Hence the idea for a fully automated machine that excavates the Palmyra palm seed out of the shell at a large scale and a faster rate. This is a basic machine that can scoop out the palm seed without disrupting the seed that needs to be scooped out. The machine does not require any manpower and it requires only one operator. This automatic machine works in the method same as the conventional method. Anyone can scoop out the seeds from the Palmyra palm fruit as it does not require any skilled personnel for operation. Since this machine efficient and economic any vendor can own and operate it.

3.Collar Cleaning Machine:

The washing machines even with the latest technologies are not effective for removing the concentrated dirt and stains mainly in shirt collars and cuffs. The special solutions available for this purpose are also not much satisfactory. Our product provides a solution to this problem very effectively.



4.Khagitha Pai-A Portable Paper Bag Making Machine:

Eco-friendly paper bags are going to be the defective standards for almost any type of carrying bag in our country. First-hand and skilled small-scale paper bag manufacturers who need to establish/upgrading their business production must go through expensive ways and schemes like a huge financial investment, more maintenance costs, large production area, increased labor wages, and so on, to meet the increasing demand of paper bags.

Therefore, there is a need to create a low-cost, efficient, automatic paper bag-making machine that would boost their business productivity, cost-cutting, and bridge the price gap between the manual and highly automated machines. The proposed solution, KHAGITHA PAI – a Portable Paper Bag Making Machine, serves as the best outfit for encouraging the livelihood of small-scale paper bag manufacturers along with a motto of “Low Price Paper Bag Machines” to the market.

5.Automatic Saree Ironing and Folding Machine:

The saree ironing and folding machine save the cost and time of ironing. It performs both ironing and folding automatically. Once the saree is fixed in the machine it automatically moves the saree to the next end. The specific part of the saree gets ironed twice. The ironed part of the saree is moved to the folding section, which has two different parts. The primary folding section catches the ironed part and folds it so the next section of the saree will be moved to the ironing section. When the complete saree gets ironed and folded by the primary folding section. It is moved to the secondary folding section and the complete folding is done by it. The complete process is controlled with the help of an ARM processor. The machine is designed such that based on the cloth type the heat of the ironer gets changed automatically.

6.Inpipe Inspection Robot Crawler Adaptable To All Diameters:

            Researchers have improvised and developed the existing in-pipe inspection robots by combining two or more propulsion mechanism. Several hybrid robots have been reviewed and categorized according to their implemented locomotion system and also analyzed for improvisation. The robots present now are wheeled, caterpillar and wheeled wall-pressing screw type. Based on the study none of the robots show their ability in navigating from bigger pipe to smaller branches. But the prototype developed which has high efficiency and of low cost has the ability to navigate from bigger pipe to smaller branches.

8.Single Slope Solar Still with Electroacoustic Transducer:

About 1.2 billion people lack access to fresh drinking water. Water scarcity includes water shortage, water stress and water crisis. To dilute the water scarcity, various techniques had been studied and a novel technique is suggested. This technique is grounded on the agitation of water using ultrasonic waves. The thought originated from the Peter Davey, who boiled the water in 10 seconds by applying sound. By practicing this concept, the sound vibration allows the water to evaporate easily while constant heat supply is given to the water by solar radiation. The oscillation is achieved by subwoofer. This method also can be applied a solution to the water scarcity.

9.Vibro Wind Mobile Charger:

The field of renewable power generation has attained a significant growth over the past few years. This is to satisfy the needs of the growing population and due to the degrading resources. Though the non-renewable harvesting methods satisfy the current needs, they are against green environment. There is renewable power harvesting done via wind- mill, turbine, bio gas and solar. They are huge, heavy in construction and low in power generation which is not capable for the growing demand. Thus, an alternate power harvester which could overcome the above drawbacks is needed. “VIBRO-wind energy harvester” could be one of the better alternates for this.

VIBRO-wind energy harvester generates power based on the principle of piezoelectric effect. In these piezoelectric materials are attached to the rear end of the thin versatile cantilever beam made up of SS302 and bluff bodies (trapezoidal, conical and aero foil shaped) made up of Extruded Poly-Styrene to the front end of the beam. Once the wind strikes the harvester, the bluff bodies begin to vibrate and due to which the beam starts to deflect. This deflection ends up in impressed vibration, as a result of this impression, power is generated by the piezo-electric material. An aero foil shaped blunt bodies for analyzing the aerodynamic force is made use in this research.

Fisheries occupy a prominent place in the economy of the world as the fish is one of foods of vast majority of people. Fish not only provides long chain omega-3 fatty acids, fat soluble vitamins, proteins, but also contains fat, inorganic substances and vitamins. Fish protein is easily digestible, and it contains considerable proportion of soluble proteins. It is more valuable for human especially for a population whose staple food is rice. Besides, fisheries help in generating employment and revenue and raising nutritional level. Now the world fish production has reached to 10,62,000 metric tons in 2017-18 from 19755 thousand tons in 1950. Nearly 76.45 per cent of it is contributed by marine sources and the remaining from inland sources like reservoirs, tanks, ponds, Lakes Rivers etc. Indian fisheries also consist of marine and inland fisheries. Survey shows that there is an increase in demand for fish food and decrease in the number of fishermen. So, we decided to increase the fishing rate to meet the demand for fish. In order to increase the rate of fishing, in this project smart fishing aid is designed and fabricated to increase the rate of fishing without human effort.

12.Fish Segregation System:

For more fish varieties, to the further processing and marketing, it is necessary to classify the types of fish. This project proposes an image processing method which is completely automatic, efficient and non-destructive for segmentation of tissues and prediction of freshness of the fish sample. This project is based on image processing technology to classify the types of fish. It is to make use of the existing image acquisition device for collecting samples, through the MATLAB software for image pre-processing, such as fish gray, binarization, image enhancement, contour extraction to extract the 11 feature parameters of four fish species, such as using the principal component analysis (PCA) to 11 characteristic parameters for dimension reduction. Then use SPSS software to establish fisher and mahala Nobis distance model, the combination of four principal components reuse component to build a model to classify the four different kinds of fish. We use the SPSS software for the fish species identification technology to build a model to classify the four different kinds of fish.

14.Smart Propeller:

Commercial Fishing is the most common fishing done in India. Depending on the size of the boat the quantity fish count varies because the boat includes nets and traps. The direction is unpredicted, the boat goes in a random direction. The path that boats moves may have many hurdles. The underwater accidents and other objects like rocks may damage the boat while crossing. The data will be stored already based on the survey. The aim of this project is to help the fisherman if any damage caused in the propeller. Any other issues pertaining to waves or other new objects, the signal is transmitted to the boat. Automatic propeller works in an emergency issue. Since, propeller is the main part of the boat which helps in connection with the main shaft.

15. Automatic Direction Finder Based on Preloaded Obstacles:

According to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the number of individual fish caught in the wild has been estimated at 0.97-2.7 trillion per year. Fishing industry is been the major part in worlds economy. Fisherman goes in search of school of fishes. The direction is unpredicted, the boat goes in a random direction. The path that boats moves may have many hurdles. The underwater accidents and other objects like rocks may damage the boat while crossing. The aim of this project is to help the fisherman to come cross such type of problems. The data of obstacles in sea will be stored already based on available data. Any other issues pertaining to known objects, the signal is transmitted to the boat. The signal transmitted help the boat to change the direction automatically.

16. Smart Automatic Wireless System for Weather Data Monitoring And Safe Landing Of Boats:

Nowadays, atmospheric conditions play a vital role in boating. Disruption from weather events leads to death for many humans and their family suffer from facing lots of problems. Travelers should be generally cautious towards travelling during extreme weather events. In recent days, boats have become a place to stay, where home-like practices are conducted. A survey has been taken in and around the world. From the survey it has been concluded that 1000 long distance trips were affected by extreme weather events in recent days. The main aim of our project is to design smart automatic wireless system for weather data monitoring and safe landing of boats. In this project, various weather factors affecting the severity of boat accidents such as wave height, sea surface and air temperature, fog presence, ice concentration and precipitation are analyzed and these weather databases are recorded in cloud. The moving position of the boat is also tracked with the help of GPS which is present inside it. The boat will come to know the status of weather condition each and every second and if there is any severity in weather condition the cloud will intimate to the boat which automatically returns to the seashore. One more advantage in our project is that if the moving boat is not able to see the status of weather condition it automatically finds a path to return to the seashore.

17. Smart Fish Detector in Underwater:

Fish and fish products are highly consumed in many countries. Commercial Fishing is the most common fishing done in India. Depending on the size of the boat the quantity fish count varies because the boat includes nets and traps. The fisher man finds difficult to identify school of fish. Though it is a vast area identifying a particular place is time consuming and difficult task. The main aim is to identify school of fish and make the job of fisherman easier. In this project varies factors are considered such as water flow, wind velocity and water temperature to detect the fishes. The boat moves in direction based on the threshold value set. Based on the survey done in and around the underwater, value is calculated. If the value is less, the boat direction changes automatically. This helps the fisherman to avoid several wave related accidents.

18.Boat Balancing Based on AI:

Fishing industry is been the major part in worlds economy. Fisherman goes in search of school of fishes. The direction is unpredicted, the boat goes in a random direction. The path that boats moves have tides. Due to over tides, the boat movement will not be a stable which lead to boat sink. The aim of this project is to help the fisherman to come cross such type of problems. The threshold value is set using wave force. If the tide value is above the threshold value, the boat turns according to the wave force.

19.Alert System While Other Boats in Danger:

Fishing industry is been the major part in worlds economy. Fisherman goes in search of school of fishes. The direction is unpredicted, the boat goes in a random direction. The path that boats moves may have many hurdles. The underwater accidents and other objects like rocks may damage the boat while crossing. No one is there to help them if the boat is damaged in sea. The aim of this project is to help the fisherman to come cross such type of problems. Here we provide alert to navy or rescue team about the boats in danger through our surveillance by unmanned fishing boats automatically.

21.Solar Still Design:

A solar still provides the capacity to use solar energy to convert saline water into drinkable water in an effective, low cost, and simple way. The ultimate aim of this project is to maximize the yield of fresh water by conducting experiments with the combination of the sound agitation and paraffin wax (PCM). The model of the solar still was designed and the appropriate mathematical model is chosen. The mathematical model is then used to simulate the solar still performance and efficiency.

22.Mehndi (Inai) Machine:

Mehndi is a form of body art originating from the Indian subcontinent, in which decorative designs are created on a person’s body, using a paste, created from the powdered dry leaves of the henna plant.

Traditional weddings in South Asia can often be long, ritualistic, and elaborate affairs with many pre-wedding, wedding and post wedding ceremonies. Different countries and regions of a country celebrate the ceremonies in different ways according to their own marriage customs, rituals, and culture. A henna party is a tradition held before a wedding in many Middle Eastern and North African cultures.

Mehendi or henna is known for its medicinal properties. It has a cooling effect that aids in soothing stress, headaches and fevers. Mehendi herb is also very beneficial for growth of nails. So, mehendi is applied to relieve the bride and groom of all the wedding stress. It also protects them from any viral diseases before the wedding.

Locally, it was exhibited at the National Science and Technology Fair, Codissia, Coimbatore. Many Special Awards,Gold awards, cash prizes was received by the team for their innovation, notably from Kingdom of Cambodia, Korea University Invention Association, Malaysian Research & Innovation Society, etc.

  •  Our GO Kart Team has been awarded Endurance Runner Up at “Indian Pro-Kart Challenge” Organized by IMAGINE TO INNOVATE which was held on September 25th to 29th 2019, at Raghu Educational Institutions, Visakhapatnam.


  • Our E Kart Team has been awarded Best Emerging Team at “BFKCT” Organized by CAD Technologies which was held at Kari Motors , Coimbatore.
